Weston One Vision

Weston One Vision (Bonnie) is a 2*event horse owned and ridden by Paul Graham and kept at Langton Farm Livery. The pair recently competed in the Intermediate at Rockingham and are aiming for their first Advanced later in the year.

In October 2015, Bonnie had a twist in her small intestine at the illeo-caecal junction and was rushed to the vet hospital. Luckily, she didn’t need a resection of the small intestine but there was inflammation from the colic surgery, which caused some problems in the short term. Initially, she couldn’t manage hay so was put onto a hay replacer ration of Dengie Hi-Fi Senior and soaked sugar beet, of which she was fed 8-10 buckets per day.

Bonnie is now back on haylage and managing it well. When Dengie’s Performance Horse Nutritionist, Claire Akers, weighed her in December, she weighed 493kg and was looking lean. Claire returned in May 2016 to reassess Bonnie’s nutritional needs prior to the start of her competitive season. Claire was delighted that she had gained condition and weighed in at 518kg, looking very fit and well.

Bonnie was being fed Dengie Hi-Fi Original, a mix, soaked sugar beet and a vitamin and mineral supplement, however Claire recommended a change to Dengie Alfa-A Molasses Free and Alfalfa Pellets, alongside her sugar beet and supplements. This high-quality fibre diet based on alfalfa will provide Bonnie with plenty of slow-release energy to fuel her eventing, while also being very low in sugar and starch.
